Compatible controllers
CNC Remote works with machines whose controller runs Grbl, grblHAL or FluidNC. Most hobby CNC routers and diode lasers use one of them.
| Controller | By USB, through CNCRemote Server | On the network |
|---|---|---|
| Grbl 1.1 | Yes | — |
| grblHAL | Yes | Ethernet |
| FluidNC | Yes | Wi-Fi |
Recognised automatically
When the machine starts talking, CNCRemote Server recognises its controller and its version, and the app shows them next to the machine. There is nothing to choose.
Connection speed
Grbl, grblHAL and FluidNC machines use 115200 baud unless their documentation says otherwise. If yours uses another speed, change it in the app when you choose the machine, under Advanced › Speed. If the machine does not answer a few seconds after it is opened, the app says so and takes you to that setting.
Machines on the network
A FluidNC machine on Wi-Fi or a grblHAL machine on Ethernet is added by its name or IP address with Add Machine by Address…. Both listen on port 23 unless set otherwise.
Such a machine can be driven straight from an iPhone or iPad, with no server to install. Keep CNC Remote open during a job: if iOS interrupts it, the job stops. Only that device reaches the machine, and no notification comes when a job ends. With a CNCRemote Server on a computer or a Raspberry Pi, every paired device can follow the job and the notification comes.
Not supported
Marlin, Smoothieware, TinyG and g2core controllers are not supported. When a machine is set up as one of them, the app says so instead of connecting.
Not sure what your machine runs? Its documentation, or the software you use today, usually names the controller. You can also ask us.
