Privacy policy

CNC Remote has no account, no ads and no ad tracking. Your jobs, your files and your machine’s state stay between your devices and your own server. This page describes the little that reaches us.

Who is responsible

The CNC Remote app, the CNCRemote Server software, the online services that come with them and this website are published by Pierre Ramoin, as an individual, in Quebec. He is the person in charge of the protection of personal information. For any question or request: support@cncremote.pierreramoin.com.

What we collect

This table follows the app’s privacy declarations on the App Store. None of this data is used for ad tracking or sold.

Usage data not linked to you

To learn what is used and what breaks, the app sends a few events: a server paired, a first job started, a wizard completed (and which one), the Pro screen shown, a purchase completed, a crash or a hang (and its kind). The analytics service adds the start of each session of use and the technical context: app and system versions, device model, language, region, time zone, screen size, appearance and accessibility settings. These events never hold a file name, a line of G-code or anything you typed.

To count devices rather than events, they carry a hash of an identifier of the app’s own: a random number the app draws on this device, used for nothing else, not the identifier the system gives it. The app draws a new one every 13 months, and erases it when you turn sharing off. It does not tell us who you are and is linked neither to your purchases nor to your servers, nor to any other data; we use these statistics only for ourselves. The events are received by TelemetryDeck, which provides us with the statistics.

This sharing is on by default. The app says so on its first screen, Find Your Server, with the switch to turn it off and a link to this page. You can stop it at any time, there or in Settings › Privacy › Share Usage Data: the app then stops sending anything to the analytics service at once.

Crash reports

The system hands the app, on your device, its reports of crashes, hangs and heavy use. The app keeps the ten most recent, for at most 30 days, on the device. Only their kind goes out with the usage data, if sharing it is on. The full report leaves your device only if you send it yourself, with the diagnostic (Settings › Diagnostics › Share Diagnostic…). Before you send it, View Contents shows everything it holds: your server’s name, network address and version, the controller type, the connection log, the console’s last lines and these reports, without your file names or the G-code sent to the controller.

If you agreed, in your device’s settings, to share analytics with app developers, Apple may also pass anonymous crash reports on to us. That sharing is Apple’s, under its settings.

Pro licenses and the trial

When you buy Pro or start the trial, your server asks our license service for a license. The service records:

This data is used to issue the license, to check it (your server does so once a week), to transfer it, and to revoke it if Apple refunds you: Apple tells us. It holds neither your name, nor your email address, nor your receipt. Payment is handled entirely by Apple: your payment details never reach us.

Notifications

To tell you when a job finishes or stops, your device hands its notification token to our relay, which gives it back as a signed ticket and keeps no copy. Your server then encrypts each notification with a key only your app knows: the relay and Apple see only its encrypted form. Live Activity updates (the progress on the Lock Screen) cannot be encrypted that way, because the system shows them itself: they carry only the job’s progress and state, never the file name.

Server updates

CNCRemote Server checks once a day for an update, at update.cncremote.pierreramoin.com. These requests carry only the server’s version; like any request on the Internet, they reveal your IP address.

Technical logs

The notification relay, the license service, the update server and this website are hosted by Cloudflare. For the relay, the license service and the update server, each request is written to a technical log: time, address requested, IP address, the approximate location Cloudflare derives from it, and client software. The content of requests is not in it. These logs erase themselves after a few days, 7 at most, and serve only to run and troubleshoot these services. Cloudflare also processes your IP address to route requests and protect its network, under its own policy.

This website

This website uses no cookies, no scripts, no audience measurement and no third-party content.

Email

If you write to us, we receive your email address and what you send, including the diagnostic if you attach it. We use it only to answer you.

What does not reach us

We create no account, show no ads, do not track you across apps or websites, neither sell nor rent data, and make no automated decision about you.

Providers and transfers outside Quebec

We share your information with no one but these providers, who process it on our behalf, outside Quebec:

Your rights

You can ask us for access to the information we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to give it to you in a structured, commonly used technological format, or to stop using it. Write to support@cncremote.pierreramoin.com; we answer within 30 days. As we know neither your name nor your address, tell us which server or purchase it is about; we may ask you for something that shows it is yours.

If we delete a server’s license, the server goes back to the free version at its next check; your purchase can be activated again from the app. As usage data is linked to no one, we cannot find it from your request: you can stop sending it at any time in the app.

If our answer does not satisfy you, you can file a complaint with the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec. If you live in the European Union, you also have the rights the General Data Protection Regulation gives you, including the right to object to processing and to lodge a complaint with your country’s data protection authority.

Security, children and changes

Communications with our services, and between your devices and your server, are encrypted. The link to the machine’s controller (by USB, or over the network for FluidNC and grblHAL) follows the controller’s protocol, which is not encrypted: it stays within your installation. CNC Remote is meant for people who operate a machine tool and is not intended for children under 14. If this policy changes, we publish the new version on this page, with its date.

This policy is also published in French; the French version prevails.
